A 2011 Challenge

Last year, a bunch of my friends the blogs I follow challenged themselves by taking a picture everyday in 2010. I'm not sure where the "resolution" came from, but I enjoyed looking at their life through their camera lens. And have decided to try it myself this year. I think it'll be a good way to get more familiar with my DSLR camera (which I currently use as if it's a "Point-and-Shoot") and will hopefully help me get back to blogging without the pressure of having to write more than a sentence or two. I can't promise that the pictures will be POSTED every day, but they will be TAKEN each day.

UPDATE: (October 2011) My laptop died back in March. It took a looooooong time to get it back. I'm working on uploading pictures I took while I was computer-less. But I'll be honest...there definitely wasn't 1 picture a day. Maybe next year...

2/28/11 - Their Imagination Is Great

T went to the doctor today.  (He has strep and will miss school again tomorrow to make sure he's had a full 24 hours of Rx before he returns...I'm a rule follower...you're welcome parents of 1G.)
Anyway, A and E heard me mention it...and that's all it took.  They played quietly in A's room for at least an hour taking turns being the patient.
Who's going to tell E that you can't hear a heartbeat through a belly button?

2/27/11 - She Shoots...

It's only fair that I take some shots of Z playing basketball since I took some of T. The problem is, she doesn't shoot nearly as much as he does, so this is one of the few I did get...a foul shot!

2/26/11 - Tired

In the middle of the afternoon today, E asked me a question.  I was sending an email, so I asked him to sit next to me and wait.  Two minutes later, I turned to ask what he needed, and this is what I found!

2/25/11 - The Student

What a great night!!! Emily taught a group of us about our cameras.  My goal is to stop using my DSLR as a Point-and-Shoot, so we learned all about composition, aperture, ISO, shutter speed, the rule of thirds, etc.  She even gave us homework (which I haven't done yet since kid #2 has strep).  Anyway, all around the room Friday night, this is what you saw.  I'm sure we all went home with hundreds of pictures just like this one!  (This future Ansel Adams was my daughter's 2nd grade teacher, by the way.)

2/24/11 - In His Eyes

Yes, it's a black eye.  He smacked it on his headboard at the crack of dawn and woke himself up.  Poor kid.  But I took this picture of his eyes...the look in them.  Can't you see the trouble?  He's already thinking about what he can destroy next.

2/22/11 - My Valentine

Better late than never...Shane got these for me for Valentine's Day...a few days late...but I'll take them.
They served as the perfect subject for a crash course in camera familiarity. Friday night (the 25th) I'm heading to a camera class taught by a photographer friend of mine.  I can't wait!

2/21/11 - More Snow?

Just when we starting to see the grass again: 7 more inches this morning!  Ridiculous!
...and still we managed to have fun in it!

2/19/11 - He's a Ham

He pretended to be asleep so I'd take his picture.  He's officially a camera hog.

2/18/11 - Tubing

He bypassed a birthday party, if he could bring a few friends tubing at the local ski area.

2/16/11 - I Do All My Own Stunts

E was sporting his BibleMan cape and "flying" off his bed.  I couldn't help but attempt a picture.  What makes this perfect is the shirt he's wearing: "I do all my own stunts".

2/14/11 - What a Way to Start the Day

I brewed my cup of coffee...started sipping...and looked out the window...to this!

2/13/11 - He Shoots, He Scores

I caught the ball actually going through the net of T's basket today!

2/12/11 - Brown Bag

I've never, never, never had it come out bad!  The secret...baked in a brown paper bag.  It's my favorite.  I'd eat it every day for every meal...if it wouldn't make me a prime contestant for The Biggest Loser.
This one was made as "thanks" for the great couple that helped A and I at the hospital.

2/10/11 - Valentine Prep

21 + 18 + 15 + 15 + 15 = thankful Z and T can write out their Valentine Cards themselves!

2/8/11 - Caution Ahead

It melts. It freezes. It melts. It freezes.
It's not safe to leave my house!

2/7/11 - Pretty In Pink

Not sure when I'm gonna cut off this behavior, but for now...it cracks me up when my big, bulky, boy saunters around in glitter and glam.

2/6/11 - It's Meeeeeeellllllllting

He may not have wanted to play in the snow, but a good 40+ degree day, and all that snow starts to melt.  There's nothing better than stomping in those puddles!

2/5/11 - Super Bowl Prep

I love food blogs.  Although they are a tad depressing, because I could never achieve such greatness in the kitchen, but I love to pretend to be inspired by them.  And I always wondered how they get such good food pictures.  Today, I made home-made Carmel Corn (recipe from Mrs. Veenema) for Sunday's Super Bowl party. The popcorn looked so fluffy that I WANTED to take a picture.  Then, after the carmel was mixed it...I REALLY wanted to take a picture.

2/4/11 - Playdate

There may be a slight age difference, but A honestly thought Mrs. Veenema was there for a playdate with her (and not as transportation for T's playdates!)

2/3/11 - Back-to-School

The 6am alarm to get up early to get breakfast ready, make lunches and pack backpacks was never so welcome! I may have even burned rubber when I dropped off the kids at school.  2 snow days in a row is DEFINITELY my limit.

2/1/11 - Really Mom?

You know it's been a snowy winter when you have to "make" the kids go play outside on a snowday.  "Not thrilled", to say the very least!
